A unique, cantilevered fence with an integrated bench creates a private dining and gathering space on the second-story terrace of a Brooklyn townhouse.

Custom built in ipe, a tropical hardwood that develops a silver patina as it ages, the fence is spot-lit from below, which creates a glowing ambience in the evenings. A tall birch tree provides additional shade from the midday sun and Hakonechloa macra (Japanese Forest Grass) and Equisetum (Horse Tail) flank the bench in a series of custom planters.
